Jo knows how to have a good time. But if you piss her off then you better run. She won't take any crap from anyone. She always likes to get her way. She listen's to 80's rock music and she can be sweet and cute when she wants to.
Background:
Jo and her mother Ellen own the Roadhouse Bar. A place for hunters to come and drink and have a good time while working on a job. Also working with them is Ash who is a former MIT student and genius . He may not look like much with his mullit and red neck clothes he but sure does know how to help find demon signals. They have owned the Roadhouse as far back as she can remember. After the death of her father William, John Winchester started hanging around,Jo called him "Uncle John". Her father and John were best friends and were working on a job together when William was killed.
It wasn't until much later when Jo met Sam and Dean. After the death of their father they went to go find answers. Sam hacked into his father's voicemail on John's phone and heard a message from Ellen a woman who is offering help in finding the Yellow eyed demon. They then went to find Ellen to ask her if she knew anything about John or the yellow eyed demon that might help them. When they arrived at the Roadhouse nobody seemed to be around. So Sam and Dean began looking around and one of the brothers got a surprise when Jo had a shot gun pointed at them. She thought that they were there to rob them and told them to get lost. Ellen then stepped and saved the boys from her daughter.They then explained why they were there in the first place. Jo was very much attracted to Dean but for once he controlled himself.
Jo has decided that she wants to be a hunter just like her father and she proves to the Winchester brothers Ash taught her well to research a case file, notably on a Philadelphia apartment building where young blond female residents disappear since about 80 years, but after so many years the police never considered a serial killing. After alot of arguing Dean decides to take the case and naturally Jo wants to come along. But Ellen forbids her daughter to have anything to do with hunting. She then takes it upon herself to beat Sam and Dean to the building and rents the room of the latest victim,and is hell-bent on 'hunting', even serving as bait, because it's her way to feel closer to her late dad.When Jo decides to search the last victim behind the walls, she is captured by the evil spirit, and Dean and Sam has figure out how to rescue Jo from the spirit of H.H Holmes. When Ellen learns about what her daughter has done she is furious and flies out to where they are immediately.
When they arrive back at the roadhouse Ellen is furious and tells Jo that she doesn't want her using herself as bait because thats how her father died. She learns the truth about how her father died. That John Winchester had used her father as bait and acted too fast exposing William and getting him killed. Jo asks that Sam and Dean leave and never bother her again. Jo then went out on her own and began her own hunting career against the wishes of her mother.
Later when Sam and Dean finally catch up with the Yellow eyed demon Sam goes missing. Dean calls Ash for his help in finding his brother. When Ash finds out that the demon is planning to open the gates of Hell he tells dean that he has to get to the Roadhouse fast. By the time Dean and Bobby make it to the roadhouse it had been burnt to the ground with Ash still inside. They had no way of knowing if Ellen was still inside.
